The Heart of Illinois Music Festival is a very special event. Each year, our chapter members invite over 100 students to participate in a round robin morning of Orff-inspired workshops.
Students can choose from the following groups:
Choir – students will sing in a children’s choir. Open to students in grades 3-6.
Dance- Students will work on traditional folk dances with a contemporary twist! They will have opportunities to create and improvise within the dance
DRUMtastic – students will explore music, movement, and rhythm while drumming on yoga balls on stands/buckets. Open to students in grades 3-6.
Barred Instruments – students will play xylophones, metallophones, and glockenspiels. It is helpful for students to have strong rhythm and listening skills and be able to demonstrate independence on a part. Open to students in grades 4, 5, 6.
Drumming – students will experience group drumming with tubanos. Students should possess strong rhythmic skills and demonstrate independence on a part. Open to students in grades 4, 5, 6.
Ukuleles – students will strum and finger-pick tunes on the ukulele. Students must have strong focus/listening skills and already have some ability to play the C, F, and G7 (or G) chords. Instruments will be provided, but students may bring their own ukulele if they have one. Designed for students with at least a year of playing experience. Open to students in grades 4, 5, 6.
